While individuals may have differences in their abilities, the processes needed for reading are not different. Sensory-cognitive functions can be developed and change an individual’s ability to read and comprehend. The mission of The Northwest Florida Academy is to assist children, with learning differences, in acquiring the skills and self-confidence needed to become independent learners. We do this through direct collaboration with families and customized instruction in research validated programs such as: Lindamood-Bell Curriculum, Don Johnston Curriculum, Barton Reading & Spelling System, Saxon Phonics, Lexonix, and Equals Math.
We serve KG-12th grades.
Our students have:
-Learning or language-based differences in reading, writing and/or spelling (such as Dyslexia or Dysgraphia)
-Sufficient attention regulation to allow access to curriculum
-Behavioral control and social language skills which allow effective participation in small group instructional activities
