Groundhog Day is now Giraffe Day! Who needs Punxsutawney Phil to predict whether we're in for six more weeks of winter when you can have a 15-foot-tall giraffe make the prediction? Join us at the Gulf Breeze Zoo at 9:30 a.m. by the giraffe enclosures on Friday, February 2 when Kenya, will outshine her world-famous weather-prognosticating counterpart, Punxsutawney Phil, by not only predicting whether there will be six more weeks of winter, but also predicting the winner of the upcoming Super Bowl. “She’s not a one trick pony like Punxsutawney Phil,” jests Katelyn Peters, Gulf Breeze Zoo Assistant Guest Services Manager. “And let’s be honest, nor is he known for being cute. Whereas, as you can see, Kenya has beauty and grace in spades.” Santa Rosa County District 5 Commissioner Colten Wright will be on-hand at the ceremony to officially proclaim the day “Giraffe Day,” and the proceedings will be streamed live on the Gulf Breeze Zoo Facebook page, affording fans around the world the chance to watch Kenya the Giraffe make her predictions. She will predict whether the public can expect six more weeks of winter, or an early spring. Will it be the Chiefs or the 49ers? The Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers will go head-to-head at Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, February 11 and Kenya will also be making her prediction as to which team will take home the trophy. We'll also be livestreaming the ceremony on our Facebook page if you can't join us in person.
