Literature Comes to Life with Jack and the Beanstalk at FWBHS!
Presented by Fort Walton Beach High School Theatre – Troupe 4967
Step into a world of wonder where the pages of your favorite storybook leap onto the stage! Jack and the Beanstalk, a magical musical for children, is the debut production in FWBHS Theatre’s new Literature Alive series — a program designed to cultivate creativity, imagination, and a lifelong love of reading through affordable, family-friendly theatre.
Perfect for ages 3–9, but a whimsical treat for children 2 to 92, this interactive hour-and-a-half experience brings fairy tales to life! From helping Jack hide from the big, bad giant to hearing the harp sing her enchanted tune, young audience members will be right in the middle of the adventure.
After the show, kids will have the chance to meet their favorite characters, snap photos, and take home a signed playbill to remember the magic. These special moments help make theatre personal, fun, and inspiring — while reinforcing story recall and vocabulary.
Studies show that children involved in educational theatre see improvements in reading comprehension, empathy, and communication skills. In fact, students who engage with dramatic arts score up to 20% higher in literacy-based assessments (American Alliance for Theatre & Education). This production aims to plant the seeds of imagination that grow into lifelong learning.
This delightful show is entirely created by the student artists of Troupe 4967 — designed, directed, and produced with heart — and is set to become a beloved annual tradition in the community.
A Special Note from the Director and Sponsor
This production of Jack and the Beanstalk carries special meaning for the Morse family. Ron Morse, theatre teacher at Fort Walton Beach High School, originally produced this show while living in Germany, through a small theatre company he founded called Razzmatazz Theatre. It was during that show that he met his now wife — and now, years later, his son Andy Morse is directing this very same show in his senior year of high school. It’s a full-circle moment of art, family, and community.
