What happens when you give a child real materials, a challenge to solve, and plenty of room to figure out how to make something actually work? This Friday, our Maker Day artists are taking on one of our biggest builds yet — building their very own 3-foot catapults from wooden dowels! They’ll measure, construct, connect, test, adjust and problem-solve their way through a working build of their own. And then, of course, we LAUNCH.
But this is still Sparkleberry, so we’re bringing ART into the build too. We’ll explore the bold colors, shapes and patterns of nautical signal flags and how they’ve been used to communicate at sea. Each artist will design and create their own flag to become part of our very own Sparkleberry Nautical Flag Alphabet. Then it’s time to put those catapults to the test. Build. Launch. Adjust. Try again. No little craft to copy. No expectation that everything works perfectly the first time. Just real materials, big ideas, creative freedom and plenty of time to MAKE.
